Saturday Morning 10.25.08
I was absent from the blogosphere for a few days (my apologies). I noticed in my reader that several of the bloggers I follow closely were also apologizing for not posting. Maybe it’s the weather or just the time of year? For me it was deep thinking. Every so often it is as if my psyche draws inward toward contemplation. I wrote a lot this week…a little over 6k words for the word count folks, but little of it was useful for the blog. Much of it was useful to me, however.
Below are some of the good things I found on the web this week. Enjoy!
Creativity Portal had an article (recipes) for creating a creative journal. If you scroll to the “recipe” below it, you’ll find one for writing as well.
The Juicy Journals & Wild Words series also produced an article on creating a writer’s notebook.
Speaking of journals, I chanced to drop my personal Clairfontaine Classics Notebook in the rain. My heart sank; I was sure I had ruined it. However, I picked it up, wiped off the glossy cover, and still see no effect on the journal at all! Talk about relieved! (The link is NOT a sales pitch…it is so you can see a description of the notebook if you desire).
NamasDaisy (Writer Dad’s wife) had a very thought provoking post on children and television. I live in a tv-free household and I challenge anyone with issues of “finding time” to remove the TV for one month. It really does make a difference! (Having said that, I miss HGTV and Discovery!)
The Atlantic had an article by Andrew Sullivan titled “Why I Blog,” that is well worth reading.
Dave Taylor’s How to Write With a Distinctive Voice on Copyblogger made me stmile. Having spent so many years being drilled in English, I sadly admit that I often speak the way I write…rather formal. Enjoy the article.
Squidoo’s Paper Based Journaling and the lead info on Journaling the Journey are worthwhile quick reads for journal keepers.
The Writing Life posted a nice article relating that writers should be reading in their genre. It’s kind of a “duh” thing, but it’s amazing how many people miss it. Think DOS…garbage in, garbage out, lol.
Pick the Brain came up with another winner in an article about lifelong learning.
Whether you agree with his philosophies or just read him for the interesting tidbits he picks up, Dr. Mercola reminds us all this week to schedule downtime and then explains why we are more productive after good sleep.
Here’s a good article on living below your means.
Daily Dose of Imagery posted this surreal photo that really captured my attention, entitled Man and Metal.
Susan Perry over at PsyToday talks about the writer’s notebook.
Joanna over at Confident Writing posted a though provoking article on using influence wisely.
Men With Pens posted an article on discovering your artistic creative process. They are always worth the read. Another article on the creative process can be found here.
Have a great weekend!
