Saturday Morning 11.08.08
Blog traffic was heavily focused on the elections this past week, but we still had some good articles relating to creativity and writing. Have a great weekend!
I was saddened to learn of the passing of Michael Crichton. He’s been called a hack writer, a formula writer, and his plots were always stronger than his writing (USA Today), but, back when I had TV, I faithfully watched ER.
The first blog in Chuck Westbrook’s blog project (of which I am a participant) is that of Zoe Westhof and her blog, Essential Prose. Check it out, give her some feedback, and join the fun!
In fact, I’ll give you a specific blog to read from Essential Prose. I love her take on creative thinking.
Stepcase Lifehack had a great article on writing. Head over and check out How to Write (in a thousand words or less).
Pick the Brain, a favorite on my reader, had several good posts this week. The first, which I read after I had posted Writer Duality 3, was on limiting beliefs and how to overcome them. The second was a nice post titled Unleash Your Creativity.
Lela Davidson posted a personal take on how writing a novel improved her bottom line. She isn’t referring to money made from the sale of a novel, but how the discipline and lessons learned have affected the rest of her life. The post is on Business Pundit.
Writer Dad, Sean Platt, had a guest post at Copyblogger this week titled 10 Ways to Avoid Writing Insecurity. How timely for me with my recent duality issues, lol.
Daily Writing Tips posted an article on proof reading that all writers need to read.
From Writers Weekly, author Tom Benjey has sued Amazon’s Book Surge. For those of you wondering why I often link to Barnes & Noble instead of Amazon, I will say that I have real problems with Amazon’s strong-arming in the PoD world.
Also from Writers Weekly, an interesting and short article on the value of writers groups.
Has anyone spent some time on FieldReport? What’s your take on it?
The Renegade Writer posted a link to a program called Write or Die. Does anyone have experience with this program? The electric shock setting sounds interesting….
Havi Brooks posted a great article titled The Truth About Procrastination. Guilt and fear? You betcha!
Oktober5 has posted his 100 Squares for Christmas. If you would like Santa to bring you some holiday goodness, check it out.

My word. So many wonderful links. I could spend all of my online time using you as an index of interesting stuff. Thanks for this: I’m heading out to browse!
Why thank you, Jane. I found all of them interesting, and I’m very glad you did as well!
Thank you for stopping by and leaving such a wonderful comment.
You’re welcome. Here I am, back again, browsing some more. Be careful or I shall start demanding more posts like this from you so I can spend less time digging around for them myself!
I do this every Saturday, so will look forward to seeing you again.
Tried Write or Die - very amusing…I’ll be back there to visit again.
Hey B J! Thanks for providing some brain food! I’m always looking for a good read!
I always check your weekend quotes section, Jamie. I’ll link to it this weekend. It’s great!
