The spellchecker demanded I change the following sentence:

“He patted the unattractive horse, whom he finally named “Pie.” (for piebald).

Checker wouldn’t shut up until the horse became “that he finally named.” Ironic twist, lol. I know a horse isn’t people, but it’s living, right? Sigh…lol.

Thank you for linking to my guest post on About.com. As for writing mechanics, I still have trouble with who/whom. It’s easiest when I can use it in dialogue. Then I can say it was the character who was wrong instead of me.

I’m guilty of the that/who mistake too. Though I still get confused by the its/it’s sometimes and have to look up the usage and difference.

I came to terms with “their” for his/her response a long time ago, but that pesky “that” still sneaks in on me, too, lol.

I mistake that for who a little too often as well.
