Saturday Morning Post 1.24.09
Happy Weekend! There’s so much good stuff on the net from this past week. Here’s just a few.
If you are still unaware, GenReality launched on January 19th and I already have three favorite posts: Talking About Writing, The Last Word, and R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
Greyscalegorilla listed 10 things not learned in design school…and it is a good list for writers, too!
Daily Writing Tips discusses how to indicate a character’s internal thoughts. I was taught the italics way. She makes an interesting point.
Rachelle Gardner had a great piece on query letters. Do people really say such things? She also posted a terrific list on the top ten things that editors look for in non-fiction books.
Cricket posted this awesome little video that is well worth 16 minutes of your time. Trust me. It isn’t writing related, but watch it anyway.
Sumar posted a follow up to her excellent advice to carry a pen over at The Writing Base.
Writer Mama has some good advice for working writing into the schedule of a busy parent.
The Urban Muse posted some organizational tips for article ideas.
Jamie at Blue Duck Copy posted two articles on authenticity (being “real”) with Lance from Jungle of Life They are Real: Up Close and Personal and Real-Unplugged.
The Word Cellar followed some of the idea above with her post on The Pitfalls of a Blogging Writer. Oh, I’ve been there. Haven’t you? Melissa Donovan also wrote on the subject of writers who blog.
The Blood Red Pencil has some sound advice for new writers on dialogue tags.
Copyblogger’s post on proof reading is excellent.
Nathan Bradsford explores the recent use of the word “trash” in relation to the writing of others. Interesting.
Paperback Writer had an idea for Wordle that I hadn’t thought of. She uses it to check for words used too often and for title ideas.
How Not to Write talks about each writer’s “superpower.” I haven’t done the poll yet because I’m not sure what mine is.
Now this I am interested in doing. I like (and might just be good at) editing the work of others. I don’t like editing my own. A great idea, at least for me, from Manage Your Writing. So much the better if there is a similar voice between the two.
Very good article on finding your voice from PocketChange.
Zen Habits on The Secret to Being Insanely Creative. Acknowledgment does wonders. Why do we struggle with it so?
Annie on Writing talks about the proof reading induced coma. Yup.
This last one is related to life, creativity, and what we can accomplish together. If you participate in the project, I’d love to hear about it. That so many people participated is, in a word, heartwarming. Watch the video.

Hi BJ,
Whoa! I’ll be busy all day with everything you have here!
The video posted by Cricket – I watched that recently – it is so worth the 16 minutes. I remember thinking, when I went to watch it – I’ll just fast forward through parts of it – just catch the highlights. It’s all a highlight, and part of the whole story.
Have a great weekend!
The two videos in today’s post really do have impact, don’t they? So much good stuff this week it was hard to limit them.
Ah, such a great list to choose from! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks, Lady G, and hope you enjoy them all.
Hi there – thanks for the link loving!! I think I have come out of my editing induced coma.. but staring now into the second draft of oblivion… sigh….
I’ll def be keeping an eye on your site from now on.. some great links here..
hugs
Annie
