Research…Loving It
Ahhh, research. I might be quiet for a bit as I absorb everything I can find on an obscure time period and place. I’m doing research for a novel setting, and creating a story board for another. I do love this part.
Even with a firm idea of where the story will go and who the players are, there’s so much promise in the research part of it. What might I discover that will open the story up, deepen its mood or change its course?
I had to get a new journal notebook (as if I ever need much encouragement to buy or fill a journal!). Ah, yes. Notes…copious notes. A notebook of notes by the time I’m done, half of which I won’t read again. It’s how I learn and absorb, so I read, take notes, and read some more.
I’ve learned the hard way not to talk about projects too early, so it will be a while before I can share these two ideas. However, they are quite dissimilar and also have things in common. One will eventually “weight” more than the other, and I’m looking forward to beginning. Time is my enemy, so I’m clearing the decks of other projects while I research.
Have I mentioned I really like the research phase? If I won the Powerball, I’d be a career student, I think…electives only!

Oh I envy you that you love research. Hate it ..hate it! But good luck with it all and I hope you find what you need:)
My favorite thing about becoming a freelancer is the accidental learning that happens along with the job. It was also my favorite thing about writing the rough draft of my novel. Naturally, things surfaced that piqued my curiosity. It was tremendous fun to roll around in the new information.
