Scribd as the iTunes of Literature

By -- B J Keltz | May 25, 2009

Scribd is in the news again.  First, there was an article in the Tennesean (May 19) discussing the model writers were using on Scribd as well as the fears of the publishing community.  Scribd has adopted an iTunes model…buy only what you want.  Readerville wonders if Scribd could oust Amazon.  That depends on the authors, but I think they could.

It’s clear that the industry is changing. It’ll be years before we fully know in which direction it went… but change it will.

Haven’t visited in a while. Nice to see you are doing well B.J.

BTW, I’ve moved. “A Writer’s Journey” is no longer my home. Click my name to find my new hideout.

Your new home looks wonderful! Great to see you and glad you’re writing.

There is a movement now from international record companies to charge a performance tax to radios. You are right that it will be years before all if this shakes out…and by then some new technology will come along. I think the real shakedown in publishing has already begun. Interesting to watch, eh?
