NaNoWriMo 2009

Are you participating this year?  Need buddies?  You can find me here. :)

November 1, 2009

I got up around 5:30, spent an hour with hubby, then started writing.  Got distracted picking a dog breed for one of my characters (to the tune of almost two hours), got back to writing, and now my sore fingers need a break at 12:43.  I am 5191 words in and will write more late this afternoon.  For now it’s time to find sustenance and do a few chores.

As much as I am invested in started Deluge on November 1, new story ideas have been popping up left and right.  It’s pretty hard to stay on track without wearing blinders.

My run this year will be further complicated by having surgery mid-month.  The procedure itself shouldn’t be too bad.  If I can recover from the first day groggies and stay off pain meds, I could gain a lot of extra time to write.  However, I know my life, so I’m not betting on it.  I’ll have to hit things hard the first two weeks just in case.

Two people from my writers group are joining me this year.  It should be fun.  I almost think I should be given a handicap since my rough drafts come flying out.  Hmmm.

I’ve been thinking a lot about sponsorship…the same way we sponsor walkers for Walk to Remember and Read-A-Thons and Race for the Cure.  Asking someone to sponsor could be a little tricky.  For example, I don’t personally know anyone that could pledge a dollar a page or ten cents per word…not when I finished at 97,000 words last year.  It seems better perhaps to pledge based on meeting goals, say, so many words per week, or even finishing.  Half a cent per word is still $250 for 50,000 words.  See what I mean?  A dollar per thousand words is $50.  A dollar per ten thousand words is $5.  Hmmm.  I’ll have to think about this for next year.  Plus, I’d want to give a chunk of it to the Office of Letter & Light that pays for NaNoWriMo and the rest to a local charity to help my community.  I buy my own T Shirt :)

October 3, 2009

It’s that time of  year again.  This will be my second year.  I’ve signed up, updated the author info, priced the T-Shirt (I like the black one) and encouraged others from my writers group to consider giving it a go.

I have a novel in mind.  I hope to start prewriting in the next few weeks.
